Wet dew now clings to a ground last seen a week ago. We pile our shit out on the lawn A folded tarp to put it on You take your side to lift and I'll take mine Shoes wet in the recede Noses frigid in the breeze We're marching down the drive with Solemn strides Out on the street the ice is gone The trees green improbable Fresh crackling leaves escort us off The ocean thaws, the sand is warm December summer is coming Our claws together grasping at This rectangle that bears our everything Material needs, pallbearers to anything else Excluding the storms So you lift yours and I'll lift mine Pack away the things that you're reminded of The rest entombed inside the home we've boarded up December summer is coming

Over the white river There is a trail of stepping stones Follow them to the guide's hut He will show you the way forward Knock and be received He moves down the river Treading on paths submerged, unseen Follow them to the west shore He will show you the way forward But then no more You will find your own way

In a winter fog found this pond Banks of ice and sleet keep you in form And sun's weak shine not enough today Just dazzled array And along this shore we plant the seed Deep in dirt it bore a warm home Once again I come to this pond Snow that generates and maintains you And the sun is nurturing the sprouts Look at how they bloom our little seeds Look at how they vibrantly preen Back again my dear pond By your serene plate a stump to rest upon In our clearing realm a chill wind passes through Winter sits enthroned Look at how they raise their little leaves Softly rustled words of our own The day is warm my dear pond Your basin weak may pass the seep along Uncalming murmer begins to drone Trickle, trickle there But look at they've grown our little trees Branches that nearly reach me But now Look how they rise our mighty trees Look how they tower above I sit with you my white pond now swirling Little tides that ebb and flow disrupt the atmosphere Crystal crinkle hushes out the arrogance of dreams And look at how they've left our little trees Canopy unseen behind the fog Cherish now your dear pond Summer comes and lets loose the river once again Moments pass and are gone When your frozen banks Melt

Snowed in at the old courthouse Ten of us in this gloom None of us can get out None of us will leave Ice cracks against These old wooden walls Settle in, settle in We're going to be here for a while Settle in, settle in Mind not to drift far from the light Hey did you hear that? Clomping noises sound From somewhere in the back I have heard what lurks in here About the town they said it's haunted

Pointless la dee das And on the stone it shone the light that warms our bones, the sun And on the stone it shone the light that warms the morning, the sun And on the stone it shone the light, the sun

A frozen cage encompasses home Screaming ice as you throw the lamp against the wall Our words kick furniture all over every room But tomorrow glows so blue I can see it Outside the temperature has reached a notch above the white Orange lines that radiate and free us from this cloistered life Green trees, watered seeds, humming beach, squirrels and Wet dew now clings to a ground last seen a week ago Another storm is underway Another blizzard has battered us all back down to the ground It's slamming the door on the sun If the summer never rots these boards We'll never leave You've got to leave the home You know you won't last another month Outside the temperature has reached a notch above the white Orange lines that radiate and free us from this cloistered life Green trees, watered seeds humming beach, squirrels and (please see beginning of album for rest of chorus)

about

There are currently three and a half Suburban Deer albums but this one is getting released second. The original second album is... not wonderful. It will probably eventually see the light of day but I didn't want to fall prey to the sophomore slump with this project and decided to write something else... then in middle of writing that something else I found a bunch of audacity plugins that greatly expanded my ability to do what I wanted to be doing, so I quit writing that to write this in order to fully explore those tools without revising finished tracks. And here we are.

I hope this album makes you feel cold and warm in equal measure. If I did my job right, it should sound like Christmas, hot asphalt, snow days and flowery fields in alternating measure. If it doesn't you're probably listening to it wrong.

Also my mom died a few months ago. It's not the happiest music I've ever released and that seemingly superfluous information might help you understand the tone of some of these songs. Or maybe you don't care about the artist, you're going through your own shit.

Also also it works best when played on repeat, but you can only do that for so long. The music has to stop eventually.
